Bandwidth Explained
Bandwidth refers to the rate of data flow, similar to the rate of water flow through a pipe. Several factors can affect bandwidth, including:
- Whether you're uploading or downloading data
- Image resolution
- Amount of movement captured by the video camera
- Amount and type of shared content
- Number of meeting participants
You can influence some of these factors, such as image resolution or movement, even as a participant. By being proactive, you can help everyone enjoy a smooth meeting experience.
Bear in mind that the server must carry everyone's data flow. To calculate the bandwidth that needs to go through the server, multiply each person's upload bandwidth by the number of users.
For example, for 4 users at 512 kbps each:
512 kbps x 4 users = 2,048 kbps
As you can see, the server bandwidth adds up quickly! Make sure the server can handle the total of everyone's bandwidth settings!
